Here is my original question:

This was, in fact, a fairly quick fix. As many pointed out it was a DNS snafu.
We are not running any sort of local nameserver (yet), and the solution was
to edit the /etc/nsswitch.conf file.

This line:
hosts: dns files

was changed to this:
hosts: files dns

which (I believe) specifies that hostnames are to be retrieved from
the /etc/hosts file and not from DNS records.

This cut boot time from 2 hours to ONE MINUTE AND FORTY-FIVE SECONDS!!!

Thanks very much first to Casper Dik (casper@holland.Sun.COM) who was the
first to point this out.

I also want to thank the following for responding. Most of them said the
same thing, several of them pointed to other problems that I found, and
ALL of them helped to better my knowledge of Solaris and Sun. Thanks!!!
