SUMMARY: Extract_unbundled tape backup

I submitted the following message:

Dear Gurus,

I have some tapes which were recorded in the SunOS extract_unbundled
format. Is there a way to make a backup of those tapes? I mean, they
are old streamer QIC 150 tapes, and I would like to backup it to newer
4 mm DAT or 8 mm tapes. Is there a way to do so?

I have both SunOS 4.1.3 and Solaris 2.5.1.

I would appreciate even scripts for doing so. I will summarize.

It seems to be a very interesting and still challanging discussion,
where one have to decide among comercial dedicated software, Public
Domain Software or home made scripts.

1. Use the software tcopy, that comes with Solaris (I didn't test it)

2. Use a public Domain copytape software. If someone need the software
please let me know, and I will send it. I tested it, and it has
   worked properly.

3. Use a dedicated script to do that. David Markowitz has one. I did
   not test it, also.
