OFFICE MEMO SUMMARY (followup):correctly* Date: 2/5/97
I received a good tidbit following my summary that I thought might be
worth sharing:
>From a Sun manual "SPARCstation 20 DSIMM/VSIMM Installation Guide" (Items 1,
2 and 3 below) and from Sun's FE Handbook (Items 4 and 5 below), the
only caveats for memory installation are:
1. Use 60 ns DSIMMs (501-2479(16MB), 501-2622(32MB) or 501-2480(64MB)
2. Slot J0201, the slot closest to the disk drive bay, must always
have a DSIMM installed in order fro the system to boot properly.
3. When installing a mixture of 64 MB and 16 MB DSIMMs, slot J0201
must be used for the first 64 MB DSIMM. If there is a lesser
DSIMM already installed there, you must move it to one of the
other unused slots. The other slots may be used for either
16 MB or 64 MB DSIMMs. [Apparently, in any order you wish, or
perhaps skipping slots. There doesn't seem to be any problem
related to contiguous or adjacent slots. wrp]
4. Solaris 2.3 or Solaris 1.1.1 Rev. B is required. [or better]
5. Install Solaris 2.3 Patch >/= 101318-34 when:
One 32MB SIMM is mixed with seven 16 or 64MB SIMMs
Two 32MB SIMMs are mixed with five or more 16 or 64MB SIMMs
Three 32MB SIMMs are mixed with three or more 16 or 64MB SIMMs
Four 32MB SIMMs are mixed with one or more 16, 32 or 64MB SIMMs
