dear managers,

ANSWER:
almost everybody suggested "Name Service Transition Kit" (NSKit-1.2) that
could be acquired from
http://www.sun.com/smcc/solaris-migration/products/nskit/nskit.html
there is a manual on this web page that is supposed to be read before doing
anything.
this kit is free of charge if you have "server" package for solaris,
otherwise it looks like it costs about $125 US (according to cathie@aisg.com).
the installation was simple and the only prerequisit was to have "SUNWsprot"
installed. (pkginfo -l SUNWsprot).
the kit could be found on the CD-ROM disk labeled Server Supplement 1.0.
the only problem i have is running "mkalias" to build "mail.byaddr" database,
as i get "Failed - no local order number in map - use -f flag to ypxfr." when
i try to push it to a SunOS-4.1.4 slave NIS server. i'm not sure if this is a
bug yet.
