QUESTION:

I submitted the following message:

Dear Gurus,

I am trying to configure all the answerbooks I have in a single
server machine, and reach it from 5 other clients. I just can use
it on the server so far, I mean, I can't configure the clients
display to receive the information from the server.

Is there a way to do so?

TIA.

SOLUTION:

I had 3 different points of view, according to the answers I got:

1. It is fully explained in the manual, how to configure the server.
   My experience has shown that it is a half-truth. It won't work
   with any X-terminal, at least with those I tried. But, to my
   problem it has worked.

   To do so, Jafar Shameem, has suggested:

   set up the AB_CARDCATALOG variable to point to the ab_cardcatalog file
   which has path to all the installed answerbooks

   use :
  /usr/openwin/bin/ab_admin -file 'the main ab_cardacatalog file'
                              -merge 'the new answerbooks ab_cardcatalog'

  the filesystem containing the answerbooks should be mounted on the clients
  ofcourse.

2. Some other guys have suggested to simply abandon the DPS software
   which, according to their opinions is complicated and, sometimes, buggy.
   My experiences has shown that they are closest to the truth. They suggest,
   on the other hand, to use any other postscript browser, like, GhostScript,
   for example, and try to acess the ps repository directly. The only disad-
   vantage would be the loss of the links, which sometimes are very useful.

3. Some other guys has sent me their scripts:

   Here is one from Tom Leach:

The csh script:

#!/bin/sh
AB_CARDCATALOG=/home/server/local/answerbooks/OCE_card_catalog
OCE_card_catalog; export AB_CARDCATALOG
/usr/openwin/bin/answerbook $*

Part of the OCE_card_catalog file:

#<Card Catalog> version 1
