Thanks to all for the replies!

Taking a paperclip (straighten out)
and inserting into the CDROM eject hole
did the trick. The CDROM ejected nicely.

Many people replied regarding the automounting
problem.

Stopping and starting the volume manager
fixed the automounting problem.

# ps -eaf | grep vold

  (If vold is still running, # kill -9 <pid for vold> )

# umount /cdrom/....

# eject cdrom

# /etc/init.d/volmgt start

I am not sure why this happens, but I am seeing it
quite a bit. The problem seems to be with vold or the system thinking some
file on the CD is still open. Killing vold and restarting clears this up.

I have found that I have less problems if I use the filemanager in
OpenWindows to eject the CD-ROMs.
