My original question:
I have a Solaris 2.4 print server. I'm trying to setup Solaris 2.5
remote access to the Solaris 2.4 printers. I'm getting the
following error when I try and add a printer from the admintool:
add remote printer failed
I see this error after I have clicked "OK" in the printer creation
pop-up box.
Any ideas would be helpful. I'll do this via lpadmin if need be.
Answer:
Create another dummy printer on my print server. This forces the
system to add the bsd protocol for listening as below...
quartz[1]% pmadm -l
PMTAG PMTYPE SVCTAG FLGS ID <PMSPECIFIC>
tcp listen lp - root - - p -
/var/spool/lp/fifos/listenS5 #
tcp listen lpd - root
\x00020203000000000000000000000000 - p - /var/spool/lp/fifos/listenBSD #
tcp listen 0 - root
\x00020ACE000000000000000000000000 - c - /usr/lib/saf/nlps_server #
zsmon ttymon ttya u root /dev/term/a I
- /usr/bin/login - 9600 ldterm,ttcompat ttya login: - tvi925 y #
zsmon ttymon ttyb u root /dev/term/b I
- /usr/bin/login - 9600 ldterm,ttcompat ttyb login: - tvi925 y #
Then my print client could talk to the print server.
Thanks to all who tried to help.
