SUMMARY: su command execution does core dump

This is a resend of my summary. I forgot to provide the original
question. Sorry.
=========================================================
Original Question:

We are running Solaris 2.5.1 on a SPARCserver-1000.

The problem we are having concerns root executing the /sbin/su
command. When /sbin/su is executed from root we get a core dump.
When a normal user executes /sbin/su a "Segmentation Fault" is
received. Neither root nor normal user has a problem executing /bin/su.

We are not real sure when the problem started occuring since this
machine doesn't have a lot of interactive activity. Solaris 2.5.1 was
install in July.

In thinking the file may be corrupted I restored the file -- same problem
occurs. I even took a copy of /sbin/su from a Sparc2000 that works
fine and got the same results.

I have looked everywhere, including SunSolve, to find a solution to this
and have come up with nothing.

Does anyone have a clue as to what's going on here? And what is the
difference between the two su commands?

The solution:

Thanks to everyone who responded to my "su" command problem.
Most everyone suggested I trace the execution using truss. I did, and
was able to determine the Basic Security Module (BSM) was involved in
"su" being unable to execute. About this time, Andrew Scarman at Sun
Microsystems Australia sent the magic answer, Sun Patch-Id
#103696-01. I have installed the patch and "su" is now working.

Ddifference between /sbin/su and /bin/su came from Frank Pardo. One
needs shared libraries and the other one is statically linked.
