SUMMARY: Exabyte Tape Drive Repair

Originally, I was looking for a West Coast repair shop for an Exabyte
Stacker 10E. In all likelyhood, it was a drive problem, not a stacker
problem. The drive in this unit is the 8500C, full high, 8mm drive with a
capicity of 5GB; 10GB with compression (yeah...right). The stacker unit is a
robotic tape changer that hold 10 tapes.

I had several responces. One said to send it back to Sun (we didn't buy it
from Sun), one said to send it back to Exabyte (They don't want it). I
settled on West Coast Computer Exchange. Their price was a flat $350 with a
24H turn around (assuming it was a drive problem).

They also sell Exabyte Tape systems, their prices are very reasonable.
They have the Exabyte Stacker 210 (no drives) for $3500, then the 8505XL
drives are $1425 each. They will als sell an 8500C, in an external
encloseure, for $350.
