Summary: verion of bind/named used

To find out the version of bind/named being used on a system:
- first find out where in.named is located
- then do a:
           strings dir_path(e.g. /usr/sbin/in.named) | grep named

  The line that has "@(#)named" is the embedded version string, e.g.
  @(#)named 4.9.3-P1

To obtain the latest version of bind, visit the following site:
        ftp://ftp.vix.com/pub/bind/release
