I asked:
] I'm trying to install the Solaris 2.5 recommended patch cluster but it's
] failing. The installation log is below. What is the checkinstall script
] and why might it be failing? I have root, usr and var combined as
] one filesystem and there is 200mb of free space on this filesystem so I
] shouldn't be running out of space.

and the answer was that the unpacked patch directory and files had to be
world-readable since part of the install runs as user sys.
The simplest solution is to untar the files into /tmp and use the tar -p
option to preserve file modes.
