Few days ago I asked the following question,

>I have recently upgraded sunos from 4.1.3 to 4.1.4 and attempted to
>start using them as NIS slave servers (The master is a sparc 20 running
>solaris2.5 and name service transition kit).

>ypinit -s serveraddr
>runs fine and setup appropriate data bases with no problem. However,
>ypserv fails every time with segmentation fault.

I forgot to mention the system running sunos414 is an IPC. I received one
message from <anchi@neosoft.com> regarding the circumstance of the
failure and if there were any logged messages. (Many thanks)

In the mean time, I managed to resolve the problem. It turned out that
there was a file "sercurnet" in the /var/yp directory. I am not running
C2 sercurity and therefore the system is not setup for it. ypserv fails
after accessing this file as revealed by the trace command. Once the
file is removed, the problem dissapeared.
