The answer is, of course, that Solaris 2.5 support for SunView does not
exist. So, I have to find an older version of Solaris that does have it.
Thanks for the help. Selected responses follow my .sig.

sunview went away as of Solaris 2.3. If your driver is sunview GUI based,
you are out of luck.

Mark -
There are at least 3 potential issues here -
(1) - sunview probably isn't 'running' anywhere since I'm guessing
that you're using OpenWindows or motif or some other GUI; you are
probably concerned with availability of sunview libraries and
the ability of the display server to handle sunview connections
(see 2 & 3)
(2) - sunview on the machine running the program - if it is solaris 2.3
or later it won't have the sunview libraries needed to run
(/usr/lib/libsun*); if it's a SunOS 4.x machine, then (3) is your
problem
(3) - sunview on the machine displaying the program - if it is solaris
2.3 or later, the X server (X or Xsun) doesn't know how to handle
sunview (or for that matter, xnews) connections
Hope this helps out,
Tom

Hmmm... SunView is Sun's old, pre-OpenWindows, windowing standard. To
encourage/enable customers to migrate to OpenWindows, backwards
compatible support for SunView applications was built into OpenWindows. I
seem to recall hearing that this compatibility support would be dropped
from Solaris 2.5 (primarily because SunView was such an ancient product).
Perhaps the driver for your scanner makes some use of the SunView
libraries? That's my best guess given the information you've provided.
