I was having a problem with a user printing using lp. When she used lpr,
she was able to print fine. It turned out that the entry in the NIS+ cred
table was incorrect.

My original message:

Check the disk space on pegasus in the directory. Make sure you are not filling
up the disk. Check the inode space as well. Next look at permissions in that
directory. Does that file already exist? Some things to start with.

Have a look at Chapter 25, "Printing and Imaging", in this book:

Unix System Administration Handbook (2nd edition) Evi Nemeth, Garth Snyder, Scott Seebass, and Trent R. Hein Prentice Hall ISBN 0-13-151051-7

It explains all about BSD-ish ("lpr") versus ATT-ish ("lp") printing systems, and how some of them masquerade as others.

By the way, this book is worth its weight in gold. Everybody on earth should own at least one copy of it.

good luck
