SUMMARY - sendmail (gethostbyaddr) problem

I recently posted a question about sendmail whining about gethostbyaddr():

> Jul 23 09:35:41 snipe sendmail[1669]: gethostbyaddr() failed

I received four replies which I will group into two camps:

(1) Check /etc/nsswitch.conf - it must be wrong. Specifically, the
    line:
        hosts: dns files

Well, unfortunately, that was not it. nsswitch.conf was already set
as above.

(2) One person - sweh@mpn.com (Stephen Harris) - mentioned that it
might have something to do with changing my DNS (which I did
in fact do a few hours beforehand).

Again, unfortunately, this does not seem to be the problem as far
as I can see. The sendmail process in question is running on the
same machine as the nameserver and the first nameserver in
/etc/resolv.conf points here. Nonetheless, I waited a day for
changes to propogate out, hoping that I was just being stupid
(happens all the time ;-), but that didn't make a difference. (I
may still be stupid though...)

So, I am at a loss. I still believe it is a DNS problem (natch)
but I haven;t been able to hunt it down and everything seems to
be functioning (including syslog ;-)

So, thanks to everyone who took the time to reply. Sorry for the delay.
Hoped that I would be able to report success.

Cheers,
        Andy
