The two main solutions were to use GNU tar or to use
dump (ufsdump).
Now I am using GNU tar (prep.ai.mit.edu/pub/gnu), and I
have had no more problems.
Only as a remark, tar and GNU tar are not directly
compatible and their syntaxes are different.
