Hello,

I have an Ultra1 running Solaris 2.5 exhibiting the following problem:

Each time I login, the permissions on /dev/audio (actually
/devices/sbus@1f,0/SUNW,CS4231@d,c000000:sound,audio) are reset to 600 with
me as the owner of the device. Since we use this device to give audio
warnings when some error condition exists on another machine and the owner
of the processes on the other machine is not me, the audio output fails.
I have tried to chown to root and chmod 666, but even then everything is
reset on login...

Well, the answers came in swift and all pointed to:

     man logindevperm

So this was a case of RTFM, for which I humbly apologize.
