Hello world,

thanks to all the people who replied to my question (cited below). I received
three types of answers sugesting
o a problem with the power management software,
o a hardware problem: either the keyboard (sun5) itself or the cable, and
o a software probem with Solaris 2.5.

Here is the original posting (again):

I'm pretty sure that the power management software did not cause the problem,
since only the monitor is allowed to go to power saving mode.

I'm also quite sure that the cable connecting the keyboard with the machine is
okay. We have two old IPC's which from time to time have a similar problem.
For them its always a loose cable. Reconnecting the cable usually causes the
machine to reboot or at least to turn the monitor back on to display some
message. Disconnecting and then reconnecting the cable does not work for my
SPARCstation 4, it will only cause a beep - that's all, the machine still does
not respond (not even to L1-A).

That's a bug with Soalris 2.5. I had the same problem before and all
what I did , installed the recommednded patches.

Try installing the following patches :

Patch: 103285-01 Patch: 103048-02 Patch: 103187-02 Patch: 103093-02 Patch: 103226-03 Patch: 103142-03

Hope this helps.... ---

I installed the recommended patches (had some problems with the largest of these; it caused the machine to crash immediately after completion of the patch; however, the patch has been installed). It looks like the patches solved the problem! At least for the last week I hadn't any problems. But the problem has been indeterministic, thus ... who knows. If the problem occurs again, I will try to replace the keyboard.
