SUMMARY: NIS/NIS+ question: unknown host

Thanks to all tat responded.

My original question:

---------
Hi all,

  I'm getting

# ping jafar
ping: unknown host jafar

  A ping to an IP address works fine. I am not familiar with NIS+
and I am suspecting that this system was erroneously setup for
NIS+. How do I test for this and if so how do I change it
back to regular NIS?

Thanks.

The correct answer from maris@dogs.sun.swh.lv:

If you need files only, chage this to /etc/nsswitch.files ->
/etc/nsswitch.conf

if nis, /etc/nsswitch.nis -> /etc/nsswitch.conf
if nis+, /etc/nsswitch.nisplus -> /etc/nsswitch.conf

This list is great!
