Never mind, I think I've got it. I changed the Configure script so that
it looks for "abc .xyz" instead of "abc.xyz". Apparently, the configure
script is fussier than the code, since it compiled okay after that.
If anyone does want to follow up with an explanation and/or a better
workaround, I will summarize.
