Subject: Output from "cron" command
Your "cron" job
$INN/bin/expire
produced the following output:
Bad entry, "al"
Bad entry, "al"
Bad entry, "alt.se"
Bad entry, "alt.tas"
Bad entry, "alt.t"
Bad entry, "alt"

After looking at the source for expire, it seems that the errors mean that you have
entries in your history file where the article path is simply "al" or "alt.se"
instead of something like "alt.2600/151561". This probably happened when your history
file got a write failure because your disk partition filled. You need to throttle INN
and then find the bad entries and delete the lines they're in.

Rasana,
Are these files in your active file? Are you running INN? Are these
files in your newsgroups file? are there directories in your
news-spool area relating to these "groups", are you able to shut down
news?
Simon.

try these for clues
$INN/bin/inncheck -pedantic -v -a
$INN/bin/scanspool -v
I'd guess that there's a problem in the history or active files

Make sure these newsgroup exist. I think I had this
problem once and found out that the newsgroup didn't exist. If that
is the case...you have to remove it in the "active" file.

I'm not good enough (or experienced enough) yet to resolve this one
remotely but I can say it is probably covered in the INN FAQ. It is
available from the news groups: news.software.nntp or news.answers
and is also available from places like rtfm.mit.edu.
If it is how you the cron job runs our one is:
/local/inn/bin/news.daily expdir=/var/spool/news/INN flags="-v1 -s" delayrm
Notice we expire news via news.daily. We only use expire by hand in
extreme cases.
Good luck,
David Evans
