Hi all,
Sorry, I've been kinda busy and couldn't summarize earlier. But thanks to all
your replies I have something interesting ( and frustrating) to share.
Scenario 1:
On local machine /etc/syslog.conf
local2.debug /var/log/syslog
local2.debug @harry
on remote machine (harry) /etc/syslog.conf
local2.debug /var/log/syslog
First of all there have to be TABs between both the fields, spaces do not work.
We use DNS for hosts, so /etc/nsswitch.conf file says:"hosts files dns".
When I have the entry @harry it does not work. The hostname just does get
resolved , whether I put it in /etc/hosts of let DNS resolve it. If, however,
I use an IP address it works.
I will post more the moment I have a resolution to my problem.
Thanks
Ashish
