First off, it wasn't XView but *xnews* issuing the Messages. Here's
one straight from the contool:
xnews: Warning: open: kbd: [errno=24, Too many open files]

Second, csh's "limit" *does* deal with Kernel *Limits* (more precisely,
the Softlimits). What I meant to say was that I didn't bust a Kernel
*Table*.
The Solution is to add an appropriate "limit descriptors 128" to the
.login . Since I didn't want to have the upped Limit propagate to the
Subshells, I have it set back to the default Value by .cshrc .
