This was my original question:
Has anyone got top (the version I have is 3.3) to run properly
under solaris 2.5 on a SS5. When I run it, it properly reports
the process stats. but the header info at the top is wrong.
I had three answers to this question, and one me too.
Of the three answers, two told me that top 3.4 beta2 would/might
solve the problem, and the other told me of a fix to gcc.
I've decided to fix the gcc header file because that may be
breaking other things as well.

I bet you used gcc to compile this? I also bet you have not
recompiled gcc since you upgraded? If this is the case you need to
find where gcc has hidden it's own versions of the headers (on my
system they are under
/usr/local/lib/gcc-lib/sparc-sun-solaris2.4/2.6.3/include/sys and mv
or remove the cpuvar.h from that directory so gcc picks up the one in
/usr/include/sys.
I just did this and top is reporting the correct values in the correct
places (it was not before...).

I also noticed this on ours Solaris 2.5 machines until I installed top-3.4beta2 where it seemes to be ok. The latest version is available at: eecs.nwu.edu:/pub/top Best, Gardar Nielsen, goggi@althingi.is The Parliament of Iceland.
thanks very much folks!
