SUMMARY: RKSH & FTP

Thanks to all who very graciously helped (too numerous to list)

The problem I was having was that most of my users on a SS20 under
Solaris 2.4 are assigned the /usr/bin/rksh as their shell. This is a
great shell because it puts a log file of their telnet activities in
their home dir (as a .dot file), and restricts their access on the
server.
What I couldn't get working was allowing them FTP access to the
server. I thought I saw something in the RKSH man pages which said
this was a limited function.

The solution was unanamous (35 responses). I needed to add
/usr/bin/rksh to my /etc/shells file.

That did the trick.

Thank you all who took the time to answer! I've gotten quite a lot of
information from this group.
