SUMMARY:

Configuration:

  Solaris 2.4 with NIS+

o /etc/protocols file is fine, and it is from Solaris 2.4 CD.

o The problems are:

  - protocols.org_dir NIS+ map was not populated with /etc/protocols, and

  - /etc/nsswitch.conf or /etc/nsswitch.nisplus has

        protocols: nisplus [NOTFOUND=return] files

o Solutions can be:

  - Popluate /etc/protocols into protocols.org_dir NIS+ Map, or

  - Modify /etc/nsswitch.conf for NIS+ to say

        protocols: nisplus files

I can now run "rdate $HOST" now.

Again, thank you for all your inputs and suggestions.

Have a great weekend!
