Greetings,
I received two responses to my query (appended to this message). Both
said that the problem could be that rpcbind died. One mentioned that
losing the loopback interface might also have been the cause. Since
the machine had long been rebooted, there was no way to verify either
of these, but I have set up a small script to let me know if rpcbind
suddenly disappears. Thanks go to Matthew Keenan and Matus Uhlar for
taking the time to respond.

Greetings,
Last night we had a problem on one of our servers that appears to be a
problem with svc_create. Here is /var/adm/messages before the reboot
that cleared the problem:

The system is a Sparc 20 with two model 50 CPUs, 176MB memory, with
system and data disks mirrored using ODS 4.0. It is using three
ethernet interfaces, with two on subnetted class B nets, and the third
on a class C net. It is not acting as a router. The system is being
used as an NFS server, and is an NIS client. At the time this started
happening, it was not very busy.
