I asked:

And the solution is:

Apply the following patch;

Patch-ID# 102479-01
Synopsis: SunOS 5.4: memory leak/mismanagement in in.named
BugId's fixed with this patch: 1178808

        -OR-

Don't use Sun's named.

bind 4.9.3 beta 17 was the latest version of named that I know was working.

ftp://ftp.vix.com/pub/bind/testing/bind-4.9.3-BETA26.tar.gz

is current.

Be careful of the install as it overwrites several /usr/include files that
will no longer work under solaris 2.x systems.
