Well I finally got this straightened out, and one day I will take the
trouble and see why it is that waay.
It turned out that the only thing I had not done was to set the
permissions on the mount point in home to 755.
Something simple, but not obvious why it has to be set to this
permission state.
I would rather have it 700 ro 750
