SUMMARY (2nd one): Booting Suns using bootp

Well, after my first summary, stating that no-one replied to my query,
I received one, and it looks like it should be right on the money.

>From the looks of it, this server will be able to replace our bootp
server and handle bootp and dhcp, using both dynamic or static
assignments for both. It also has code for a client program under
BSDish flavors. I have not had a lot of time to evaluate this, but it
looks like both the client and server will serve as a good starting
point.

Thanks go to stots@elbit.co.il (Haim Stotsky) for the reply.

Hi all,

I know that I could use /etc/ethers and rarp to do this, but I would
like to set this up to work off the same system as the rest of the
organization.

I have multiple Sun workstations (sun4c, sun4m running SunOS 4.1.n),
and would like to have these machines get their IP, gateway,
nameserver, etc information from a central bootp/dhcp server so that
if a range of IPs need to be changed, all that is needed (at worst) is
a reboot of each machine.

Has anyone set up an rc script(s) to do this that would be willing to
share? It would also be nice (although I am not sure if this would
even work) to be able to reconfigure machines on the fly, without the
need to reboot.

Is there any experience doing this out there?

As usual, I will summarize to the list.

Brian
