Hi fellow managers.

Here is the original question:

> Recently i have begun to have the following error sequence

> Aug 12 02:22:03 njord vmunix: sd2d: Error for command 'read'
> Aug 12 02:22:03 njord vmunix: sd2d: Error Level: Retryable
> Aug 12 02:22:03 njord vmunix: sd2d: Block 793328, Absolute Block: 1554863
> Aug 12 02:22:03 njord vmunix: sd2d: Sense Key: Media Error
> Aug 12 02:22:03 njord vmunix: sd2d: Vendor 'SEAGATE' error code: 0x10
>
> This sequence is repeated 50 times, and is finally ended with this

> Aug 12 02:22:22 njord vmunix: sd2d: Error Level: Fatal

> Is my disk about to depart ?

Thanks a lot to the following people (and possibly some others i have forgot)
for their suggestions on how to get rid of disk error messages:

Fred Berns <fhb@kestnbaum.com>
Henry Katz <hkatz@lehman.com>
Carlos Morillo <carlosm@eng.eccs.com>
Stephen Harris <sweh@mpn.com>
Gadi Friedman <gadi@hynet.co.il>

Mel <mel@maths.abdn.ac.uk>
David Gunn <gunn@lardav.com>
John DiMarco <jdd@db.toronto.edu>
Gary Kosar <kosarg@persrep3.fw.gs.com>
Sylvia Camacho Lara <sylvia@cicese.mx>
Mr T Crummey <tom@sees.bangor.ac.uk>
Mark Hargrave <root@wisdom.maf.nasa.gov>
Paulo Licio de Geus <paulo@dcc.unicamp.br>
Markus Buchhorn <markus@octavia.anu.edu.au>
Adrian Cole/Computervision <Adrian_Cole/Computervision@ausns1.cv.com>
Kevin Sheehan {Consulting Poster Child} <Kevin.Sheehan@uniq.com.au>
Simon Gibbons <simong@aifs.org.au>
Rune Paulsen <rune@usystems.no>
Craig Gruneberg <clg@zygote.csph.psu.edu>
Tim Bradshaw <tfb@aiai.ed.ac.uk>

And now to the solution:

As many of you suggested, using the format program will solve the
problem. What i did was:

1. Backed up all partitions on the disk.
2. Used format->format, format->repair to format the disk and add the
bad block to the bad block list.
3. Newfs on all partitions.
4. Restored all partitions.

This seem to have done the trick.

Thanks again for your help.

Henrik
