My original question is :
>Dear gurus,
>I just bought a new hard disk drive (removable) called SyQuest SQ3270S.
>The capacity of the drive is 270MB.
>Does anyone have a format.dat entry for this drive under SunOS 4.1.3 ?.
>I will summarise.
>Thanks in advance
Damian Murphy gave me the format.dat entry which I use succesfully on
SunOs 4.1.3
#Syquest removable drive
#Syquest SQ3270S with SQ327 Cartridge - Formatted Capacity: 270MB
disk_type="Arte SyQuest SQ3270S with SQ327"\
:ctrl = SCSI \
:ncyl = 2617:acyl = 2:pcyl = 2619:nhead = 2:nsect = 100 \
:rpm = 3600:bpt = 51200
partition="Arte SyQuest SQ3270S with SQ327" \
: disk = "Arte SyQuest SQ3270S with SQ327":ctlr = SCSI \
: 0 = 0,24400:1 = 122,49000:2 = 0,523400 \
: 6 = 367,450000:7 = 0,0
Syquest is not contactable as I bought the drive from a third party
reseller (Graphics Computer Systems in Australia).
Ross Bennett from GCS gave me the information for Solaris 2.4 format
command. I tried on the Solaris 2.4 x86 machine. The format command
immediately recognised the drive and I used the supplied default which is
different from the one given by Ross.
The format went OK and I can newfs. The default is
number of cylinders 2618
alternate cylinder 2
physical cylinders 2620
number of heads 2
sectors per track 100
which is consistent with the foramt.dat entry Damian suggested for
SunOS4.1.3.
Petros suggested to use scsiinfo and scsiping to get the information for
the format entry.
Thanks again to all who replied.
