Thanks to all who replied. I reported problems attaching Fujitsu
M2266S disk to Sun 4/110, and sparcstation 1+. It was visible to
probe-scsi but not once system booted.
Suggestions were:
* netbooting kernel may not be configured to look for drives - try
using generic kernel or rebuilding kernel.
* check probe-scsi - if not visible there, hardware problem
* check for line like
sd0 at esp0 target 6 lun 0
If missing, kernel doesn't have driver installed, need to either load
it under Solaris 2.x, or rebuild kernel w/ driver in in SunOS 4.x.
* Several people said sun is always picky with disks, and they've had
lots of problems with "invisible" disks that never worked.
* Check that parity is on - sun may require this.
* Check that TERMPWR is enabled - may be necessary.
It turned out (forgive me, I'm new to suns!!!) that the disk didn't
show up because I tried it at scsi id 4, 5, and 6, and evidently sun
only supports disks at scsi id 0,1,2,3 with SunOS 4.1.1, at least.
Obvious next question - how on earth do I attach more than four disks
to these systems without adding another controller? Scsi ids 4, 5, 6
are available, and I want to use them - how??????????????????
Please reply via email, I'll summarize if anyone is interested.
Many thanks in advance!
