This is a summary of the replies I received on checking if a patch
is instlled under SunOS 4.1.3.

The Answer:
If you look at the showrev command it is a shell script, so you can se
what files, etc, it is looking for. For patch information it looks for
files /etc/install/p*. With SunOS 4.1.x you must create these for
yourself manually. In Solaris 2.x this is automated with the
installpatch procedure.

Basic Procedure (Step by Step) To Follow:

a) Run "showrev -p > before"
b) Install a patch
c) Run "showrev -p >after"
d) If new patch doesn't list,
edit a file called "patch" or "patch_anything"
in "/etc/install" and enter a line for the new patch.
e) Write out the file
f) Rerun "showrev -p": The new patch should be documented.

Note: If an entry is made manually, be sure to include the
Revision Number of the patch, as well as the Patch ID Number
      itself.
