The two replies you post seem to contradict each other.
pwolfe@mcs.com (Patrick Wolfe) says that if you use 2+6, i.e. 2 bits
dedicated to subnet address and 6 bits dedicated to host address (of the
last octet of your class C network),
then you get *4* subnets with 62 usable host addresses each.
Thomas Wong (tcwong@cisco.com) says that if you use 2+6,
then you get *3* subnets with 62 usable host addresses each.
