The overwhelming answer (as a matter of fact the only answer) was
GNU g++ and its appropriate debugger and library.

All responses were great.
Here is the most detailed one from Salvatore Saieva:
Checkout GNU's compilers. FTP from ftp.gnu.ai.mit.edu the files:
        gcc-2.6.3.tar.gz
        gcc-solaris2-bin.tar
        gdb-4.13.tar.gz
        glibc-1.09.tar.gz
        libg++-2.6.2.tar.gz

The file gcc-solaris2-bin.tar contains Solaris 2 pre-compiled binaries of the
GNU compilers for compiling the newest versions of the same.
