Summary:
Thanks to all those who replied to my request for 2.4 upgrade help, we have
been able to sort out our problems.

This problem turned out to be a bug in the upgrade procedure which causes
an "fsck" infinite loop. To get past it one needs to "kill -9" any stuck
fsck process from another root session (we start a cmdtool from OW). This
problem occurs without apparent pattern.

> 2) The "pfupgrade" command fails with a segmentation violation.

After trying many suggestions (including truss'ing the pfupgrade, running
"sunupgrade" with the Bourne shell -x option etc) without success, we
eventually decided to reload the install software from CDROM - which fixed
the problem! We have yet to find out what file became corrupted.
