Dear managers,
Tue Feb 14 I wrote about two problems: malfunctioning bootserver and
problems with my ypservice. My original posting is included below.
Thanks to

About the bootserver: It turned out, that the clients used the wrong
ip-adress of the server. Fixing that, solved the problem.
About yp service: I didn't succeed on making ge11 (Solaris 2.3) a yp
client of ge19 (SunOS 4.1.4). Instead I put it into another yp domain
served by a SunOS 4.1.2. This satisfies me, because I'm rearranging my
yp domains right now.

I did have a /etc/resolv.conf, and it didn't help to create
/var/yp/securenets.

I have installed SunOS 4.1.4 on a Sparc IPC, and have now problems
with the ypserver and bootserver.
The ypserver can serve SunOS 4.1.x machines and Solaris 2.2 machines,
but not Solaris 2.3 machines. On those machines, I get
Feb 10 17:34:41 hobbes ypbind[14180]: NIS server not responding for
domain "fa.dmi.min.dk"; still trying
If I try to bind to the server with ypset from a Solaris 2.3 client (I
have started ypbind with -ypsetme), I get the following:
Feb 11 20:32:54 hobbes ypbind[14321]: unable to register (YPBINDPROG, YPBINDVERS_2)
I have with rpcinfo checked, that the ypserver is able to talk this
program in this version.
hobbes% rpcinfo -u ge19 ypbind 1
program 100007 version 1 ready and waiting
hobbes% rpcinfo -u ge19 ypbind 2
program 100007 version 2 ready and waiting
hobbes% rpcinfo -t ge19 ypbind 1
program 100007 version 1 ready and waiting
hobbes% rpcinfo -t ge19 ypbind 2
program 100007 version 2 ready and waiting
If I do the same thing on a Solaris 2.2 machine, I get the following
message in the console:
pratt% Feb 13 09:37:05 pratt ypbind[10491]: Set domain request from <
\000\000 : setting server for domain fa.dmi.min.dk to ge19
And the it binds.
If I run etherfind -r -broadcast -dstport sunrpc on the ypserver ge19,
I can't see any calls from neither pratt nor hobbes.
The other problem I got with the 4.1.4 server machine is, that it
won't allow a ELC client nfs mount all the necessary files. I get the
following message:
dump on ge19:/export/swap/ge20 fstype nfs size 16372K
mount: ge19:/export/exec/sun4.sunos.4.1.4 server not responding: RPC: Port
mapper failure - RPC: Timed out
mount retrying
/usr
The client can sucessfully mount /export/root and
/export/swap. ge19:/export/exec is exported:
ge19# exportfs
/usr
/usr/local
/data
/export/share
/export/exec
/export/home
/export/root/ge20 -access=ge20,root=ge20
/export/swap/ge20 -access=ge20,root=ge20
Doen anyone have a hint of how to solve these problems?
Yours
