Hi to all,
the original question was :
> We are planning to run a Windows 3.1 application inside Wabi 2.0 or Softwindows 1.1 .
> This application is build on top of Tcp/Ip (Pcnfs by Sun).
> Does Wabi or Softwindows support networked Windows application like that ?
> Thank you very much in advance.
At posting time we thought two wrong things :
1) The question could be ridicolous a little.
2) Obviously it doesn't work.
Now we can say :
1) It is NOT : it's a hot problem. Many people are interested in.
2) It is NOT : it works !
Actually Softwindows gives NDIS support, so it is possible to install a TCP/IP stack for PC inside the emulator.
We successfully tried with Pcnfs v. 5.0 ; it also suited the NIS environment without problem.
A limit of Softwindows is 80286 emulation only (I'm waiting for a confirmation by Insignia).
If you need further information to configure properly Softwindows for NDIS support be free to send me a message.
I'll provide you with the instruction that Andrew Warriner by Insignia gently sent to me (not included here because a little long).
WABI : at the moment it has no support for networked (Tcp/Ip) applications.
Another solution is a Pentium PC Server with NT 3.5 to run the PC applications and use one of the emerging X-client translators (for example WinDD by Tektronix) on the PC Server to send its display back to a workstation/X-terminal.
Many many thanks to Andrew Warriner (andrew.warriner@insignia.co.uk) .

Subject: Re: Networked applications inside Windows emulators
Dear Sir,
Further to your e-mail regarding SoftWindows, as you are aware SoftWindows
currently emulates the hardware of an 80286 IBM compatible PC. Applications
that require a 386 or higher processor are not supported on this product but
will be supported in the new SoftWindows Version 2 which will be emulating a
486DX processor. This product should be available in the second quarter of this year.
Many regards,
Andrew Warriner.
