------Orignial Question------
Dear Sun Managers,
Does anyone know what might be causing this and how to fix it? This
started occuring on my server (Sparc1 running 4.1.2) upon boot-up and I have
been unable to find or fix the problem.

You might have an entry for mountd in both inetd and in rc.local.
I generally use rpc.mountd in the rc.local file instead of the
mountd entry in inetd.conf.
Remove one and the problem should go away.

My rpc.mountd is started by rc.local. The entry in my inetd.conf is
commented out.

Check if you have both a rpc.mountd daemon and
an /etc/inetd.conf file that allows mountd.
You should only have the first one for a normal site.
