Pamela's entry seems to be the one which works in my case.
However I was using the local display on my workstation.
I also believe it has something to do with the color map. However
I have not been able to prove it.
And yes I have been using mosaic so the other entries would be good things
to keep in mind.

I also had this problem with two systems. One was a
xterminal, and I guess that will never work. The second, I was
running using -display to my machine over the net. It appeared
that either the server or the client had two of each dps extension
applications running:
grand-am{pamela}22: xdpyinfo | grep dps
Adobe-DPS-Extension
DPSExtension
show's only one. Sometimes, recyling openwin fixes the problem.
Booting seems to all the time. Sun's solution was to boot.
I would hope that they could figure out why this happens,
My solution now, is to start anwerbook before any other software
( Networker, SNM, mosaic, netscape, etc ), and I have not had
the problem re-occur very often.
I pulled some docs off sunsolve, and attached them, perhaps they
can help.
Note:jec
The docs did not make it thru. Perhaps Pamela would post the numbers.

Subject: Re: Could not launch new Viewer using answerbook.
I have had this problem before. Stangely enough, I closed "NetScape" and the
problem disappeared. I have had this happen often enough to where I think
there is some correlation.
I think it may have had to do with not being able to allocate all the colors
it wanted from the colormap table.

I have seen that problem before, it has to do with your display
not being postscript, are you using the sun's version of X, I don't
know if that pointer is enough, but that is all I remember that
cured the problem that I had, in other words if you use X11R5 from
a different vendor then you may see that message,

If you're running this on an X server you will have problems. Answerbook needs
either News or one other thing. I can't remember. Anyway I'm running into the
same thing and if you find anything could you send me the answer also. I'm
running Mtoif 1.2.3 on Solaris 2.4.

Had similar trouble many moons ago, when a highly-coloured backdrop meant
that the viewer couldn't grab enough colours to run, and silently failed
to do so. Are you using a backdrop or running Netscape or Mosaic (both
beauties for grabbing the whole pallette on a whim)?

Me too!!
I'm interested in a solution to this. The problem is the
solaris 2.3 not supporting postscript viewing.. But a
solution.. I'd really like to know!
Please let me know what the net comes up with!!

Please summarize on this. I have a similar problem, but
it only seems to occur after I have run Mosaic in my
current windows session. Pageview doesn't work, which is
what keeps answerbook from working.
I thought I got it working when I removed the font
definitions for Mosaic from my .Xdefaults, but one of
my users still has the problem. I'm at a loss, too...

Hello,
I have the following locally installed answerbooks on my system.
