Thanks to marc@atmos.washington.edu I have a solution. It turns out there is
a new version of the "hpnpf" program. "hpnpf" is one of the pieces of the
JetDirect software. Marc forwarded me a copy of the new binary, I put it into
place and everything has been working fine. Thanks again Marc!
To briefly summarize the original problem:
I have a Solaris 2.3 machine acting as a Print spooler server for my H.P.
LaserJet HP4MV using H.P.'s JetDirect software. I was having problems with
print jobs restarting after a few pages had been printed. It only seemed to
happen with long (>10 pages) print job. It looked as if the printer was
timing out or something.
