My original posting:
What are the Solaris 2.3 kernel parameters SLOWSCAN & FASTSCAN?

some of who quoted from Adrian Cockcroft's 'Sun Performance & Tuning'
book:
Slowscan is the number of pages scanned per second by the (paging)
algorithm when there is just under lotsfree (memory) available; it is
usually set to fastscan/10.
Fastscan is the number of pages scanned per second by the (paging)
algorithm when there is no memory available, & is usually set to 1000.
There is a linear ramp up from slowscan to fastscan as freem memory
goes from lotsfree to zero.
Richard Sands and Richard C. Mills further offered the means to modify
these values in /etc/system:
set fastscan=????
set slowscan=????
Mark Hickey also suggested to pull the paper Sun Performance Tuning By
Adrian Cockcroft from the Sun archive at sunsite.unc.edu. I ordered
a copy of Cockcroft's book today from SunExpress for $35.
