Thanks to all who helped me solving my network problems. Here is the summary.
First my original posting:

How can I setup a Sun-OS 4.1 SPARCstation with a second ethernet board
(SBUS)? I tried to add a second IP number and host name into /etc/hosts but
in vrey irregular intervals warnings like "Duplicated IP addresse sent by
ethernet xx:xx:xx:xx" appear in /var/adm/messages and for a few hours no
connections are accepted any more from one of the subnets.

Please mail to me (frala@mem.unibe.ch) directely, I will post a summary.

You need to run ifconfig and route to setup the ethernet devices and add
routing information. Also, be aware that you can only use multiple ethernet
boards if you are using subnets.

Did you setup a file /etc/hostname.le1 (or whatever) and have the proper
ifconfig to make the system recognize it?

I don't really know too much else...

Is xx:xx:xx:xx:xx a host on the net?

If so, it has the same address as you.

Go pound on the person with that machine.

And the one that solved the problem:

You cannot have the same hostname on the 2 ethernet ports, in the same
way that you can't have the same IP address.

In /etc you should have 2 files called hostname.le0 and hostname.le1
these should contain the names for the 2 ports eg mayhost and myhost-1.
then in the /etc/hosts file you would have:

127.0.0.0 localhost
141.241.4.36 myhost
141.241.160.8 myhost-1

This should then resolve any conflicts in addressing.

Hope this helps
