Thanx a lot for the responses to my query on the choice of tapes.

All suggested that use of video tape is a bad deal.
Most of the people who wrote to me said they used and
preferred Sony tapes. Some people had problems with TDK,Maxell and
3COM. One recommended Exabyte tapes. 3M tapes were not favoured .
Michael Harrington also sent me some info on 'HI8 8mm video tapes
usage for EXB-8200 and EXB-8500 tape units' and 'What Type of Media
should I use' and 'Cleaning 8mm Helical Scan Subsystems'.
Some used 3COM and preferred it.

+ points of Sony.
It is cheaper than when the Exabyte brand
name is on the tape.
 Errors are less.

- points
software compression was flaky.

Thanx to all of you who replied...
