The solution was that there were hidden dip switches on the
bottom of the drive under a cover made of plastic. Unknown to me,
this drive was hooked to this very machine in the past, BUT was on
a second IPI-2 controller and addressed as drive 0 (duh) no wonder
the machine was real confused when it attempted to boot.
As far as I know and according to the Sun official hardware
engineer's manual for epromms, there is no hex selection to
boot from a IPI drive. I see Xylogics, SCSI, ethernet, SCSI 1/4"
tape and 1/2" tape. If anyone knows of the hex values for the
IPI, I'd like to have them for future refference. If anyone needs
the hex for the above epromms, I'll be happy to email them.
Since the machine was so confused, the >b id() did not work
either.
My solution was just to change switch 1-4 to make this drive
id 2 and all works fine. (seagate was real helpful with this since
it's one of their Sabre drives)
