Here is a summary.
I will leave it up to anyone to judge on what they should do.
But I believe the recommended patches at sunsolve1.sun.com for SOl2.3
should be installed.

Thanks to all who responded.

hi

the advice I got from Sun was to install the recommended patches
as they are a later revision (in most cases) than the ones supplied
on the cd. the only problem is that there may be patches on the cd
that are not included on the recommended patch release and you will
have to install them if necessary.

both the recommended patches on the Sunsolve CD, and on the Solaris
2.3 edition II CD are already out of date. I recommend that you get
the latest versions from sunsolve1.sun.com and install them.

  hope this helps,

Definitely install the patches you got with the CD. I have not
installed any other patches and our Sparc 5s work fine. We don't do anything
too fancy with them though. Look at the description of the various patches and
choose the ones that apply or could potentially apply to you.

Hi,

I have a sparc5 and I just installed Solaris2.3 Edition II.
I was wondering about which patches to install. Should I install
the 2.3_Recommended Patches that you get from Sunsolve or should
I install the patches that went with the CD (Solaris2.3 Edition II) ?

Thanks in advance.

Is this the same Jose Montilla that used for work for Sun ?

At any rate, I'd recommend checking the dates of your CD's.
There are several version of Sunsolve. If Sunsolve CD is younger
than EDITION II, use Sunsolve. Or you can compare patch revision
numbers the ones after the dashes.
