Get /usr/openwin/bin out of your PATH and try it. ==> same as FAQ

Once you've got it started, I'd suggest setting up an xinitrc and
running the startx script in the distribution. Use the startx script
enclosed, and put the xinitrc in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xinit.
==> If you need these two shell scripts -- startx and xinitrc,
please let me know, I will mail you directly.

What? Why did you link /usr/openwin/lib/whatever when compiling
R6? Are you using LD_LIBRARY_PATH? If you are, disable that and
try again.

Typically this happens when you have an executable that is dynamically
linked to a library (in this case: /usr/openwin/lib/libXaw.so.4)
that is an older revision on your machine than where it was built.
You can either live with the error, or get (or build) a newer library.
