The only other Sun app that I know of that uses NeWS is the CG3270 product.
It's not been ported to DPS; Sun recently announced an alliance with Brixton
instead (which uses standard X11, I believe).

Frame sells a NeWS version, but I don't think it's on DPS yet.

Sunview, Xview and software which uses display postscript (although the recently
announced new version of the Xterminal software for the SparcClassic X, ver 2.0
, does support display postscript).

You will be able to run most standard utilities EXCEPT Answerbook and
Pageview.

ghostview is a shareware replacement for psh/pageview.

Ref : 9408251623.AA06940(a)toro.ucdavis.edu We have a pair of NCD X-terms, which now have DPS. the answerbook works now, file manager works. Image viewer crashes and i am in contact with NCD regarding the problem. Properties.... fails. Help... works.

there are font problems, there are openwin startup hassles. gotta get the correct SUN type 5 keyboards (need the left keys for openwindows).

users here only use the xterms when there is no sun console available.

whole new beast to administer. if you would only be getting a few, try not to.

strongly recommend you visit a site with the X-term of your choice running before spending any money.

Ref : 9408251604.AA07667(a)wadnr.gov Depending on which version of Solaris you use, there are two versions of Xviewer

to display the actual documents in AnswerBook and SunSolve. Sun was using a special font not ported to X terminals, I think it was the Palatino but it may be something different. There is supposed to be 'special' AnswerBook release for X terminals. Now, not knowing how far HP went with local Xterm fonts, you may not need the special version. I would be interested in which HP terminals you choose and the results of these font issues. I would very much appreciate getting a copy of the answers you receive to this one. I have HDS X Terminals booting from and running apps from a SunOS 4.1.3 machine. I'm wondering what'll stop working when I switch them over to a Solaris 2.3 box... <mike@bakerryan.ie> Baker Ryan Limited, Systems Consultants
