I found that the best solution is at telnet>
prompt type 'set escape off', but this won't
work with HP machines.

Other answers:
1. At the telnet prompt try toggle localchars.
2. Try starting telnet without any host and at the "telnet> " prompt type
"set ?" and "toggle ?". I believe toggle autosynch will do what you want.
3. rlogin -8 -l user host (instead telnet).
